Using artificial intelligence (AI), scientists at the Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) can detect the lower layers of paintings. This helps art historians determine the authors and authenticity of paintings. The project, which Barbara Zitová from the institute described today at the CAS conference, was created as part of the AV21 Strategy, which links the work of various departments of the academy. For example, the institute worked on a painting by Leonardo da Vinci in Florence.
